Patricia "Pat" Ellerbroek, 77, of Cherokee, died Saturday. March 10, 2007 in the Careage Hills Care Center in Cherokee.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan Sayler officiated. The family requests that memorials go to the Cherokee Public Library and the Cherokee County Archives.

Pat was born on May 27, 1929 in Sioux City, the daughter of Adolph "Swede" & Helen (Lampe) Hagerstrand. She graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1946 and then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for 3 years. On June 1, 1950, she married Vernon John Ellerbroek, Jr.

Pat was very active within the Cherokee Community for many years. She was the Cherokee Public Library Assistant from October 1969 until February of 1978, when she became the Library Director. She worked in that capacity until retiring in 1992, and assisted thousands of students.

She was very involved with the Cherokee Community Theater, the Cherokee County Fair Board, the Sanford Museum, and Relay for Life. She was deeply involved with the Cherokee Archives, and helped produce a book celebrating the History of Cherokee County for the town's Sesquicentennial in 2006.

For the past 15 years, Pat wrote a weekly Time Capsule for first the Cherokee Daily Times, and then the Chronicle Times.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her sons, Greg Ellerbroek and his wife Kathy of Sioux City and Dr. Chris Ellerbroek and his wife Renee of Des Moines; and her daughters, Cindy Leisinger and her husband Brian of Waverly,and Laurie Krause and her husband Rick of Overland Park, Kan.; ten grandchildren: Amber, Shawn, Charles, Joe, Rebecca, Connor, Anna, Tonia, Cory, Amanda; six great-grandchildren, and one sister: Judy Mulkins of Mason City; her aunt Annabelle Wacker of Bellevue, Neb.; her uncle Wesley Lampe of Des Moines, a niece Kim and a nephew Todd.
