Ronald Dean Magnuson, 64, of McClelland, Iowa, formerly of Washta, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. The body has been cremated. There will be a luncheon following the service Monday at McClelland Townhall. Visitation with the family present will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ron was born Aug. 10, 1942, in Cherokee, Iowa, to the late Elmer and Virginia (Renshaw) Magnuson. His childhood years were spent on a farm near Washta. He graduated from Washta High School in 1960, then attended a trade school in Omaha.

He married Karen Carstens of Holstein, Iowa on April 22, 1961. He was an over-the-road truck driver (known as Handyman), retiring from the Air Force Base in Omaha in 1996, after becoming ill. The couple operated the Dew Drop Inn in McClelland for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Magnuson of McClelland; two daughters, Deborah Townsend and her fiance, Scott Miller of Bentley, Iowa, and Denise Magnuson of McClelland; a son and his wife, Terry and Kris Magnuson of McClelland; three granddaughters, Samantha and Tabatha Magnuson of McClelland and Shelby Miller of Bentley, Iowa; three grandsons, Matthew and Shawn Townsend of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Brandon Magnuson of McClelland; two brothers, Wayne Magnuson of Live Oak, Fla., and Peter Magnuson of Lake Harbor, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Magnuson.
