Mrs. Kristina Miller

An illness of three months’ duration was terminated early yesterday with the sudden death of Mrs. Peter Miller of Marcus township, one of the most respected women of this community. Mrs. Miller, who had attained the age of 68 years, had resided in this vicinity for forty-four years.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. They will be held at 1:30 0’clock from the family home, and at 2:00 0’clock from the Danish Lutheran church in Marcus. Interment will be made in Amherst cemetery.

The deceased had been confined to her bed for the last three months of her life. Early in March she became seriously ill. She had spent a few days in a hospital, but since that time had been confined to her home, where she had been under the ministrations of her family and local physicians. Although aware that her condition was serious, the members of her family were shocked by her sudden death at 6:10 Wednesday morning. She appeared to be in excellent spirits, and shortly before her death informed Mr. Miller that she did not care for breakfast. A few minutes later death claimed her. Mr. Miller and some of the immediate members of her family were at her bedside when she passed away.

Mrs. Kristina Miller was born on August 14, 1870, at Hejls, Denmark. She grew to young womanhood there, and where she was united in marriage to Peter Miller, who survives her. Two weeks after their marriage they departed for the United States, going directly to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where they made their home for a year. Forty-four years ago they came to this community, where they have since resided, and where they raised their children. They lived on several farms around Marcus, but over 30 years ago purchased the farm north of this city which has since been the family home.

Thirteen children were born to their union, all of whom survive. They are: Bert, Garrett, Texas; Peter, Meriden; Chris, Cleghorn; Mrs. Marie Pallesen, Marcus; Wm., Cleghorn; John, Meriden; Mrs. Anna Lubbert, Cleghorn; Carl, Marcus; Martha Miller, Marcus; Mrs. Emelia Bogh, LeMars; Mrs. Esther Galvin, Marcus; Mrs. Rose Olson, Sioux City; and Herman, Marcus. She is also mourned by her husband, Peter Miller, and two sisters. The latter are: Mrs. Andrew Scott, Marcus, and Mrs. N.A. Christianson, Denmark.
