Marie Pallesen, 90, of Marcus died Wednesday, April 5, 1989, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee. Funeral services were held at 10:00am Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church. Rev. Ronald Kramer officiated and burial was in the Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Mrs. Helen Nelson was the organist and Mr. John Schneider sang “How Great Thou Art” the congregation sang “Abide With Me” and “Rock of Ages”. Serving as casketbearers were Russell Pallesen, Eric Pallesen, Dave Means, Terry Pallesen, Steve Heeren and Rodney Miller.

Mrs. Pallesen, the former Marie Miller was born on July 25, 1898 in rural Marcus, the daughter of Pete and Caroline [sic] Miller. She married Niels P. Pallesen on May 29, 1918 at Viborg, S. Dakota. He died July 27, 1967. She was a lifelong Marcusresident. She attended the Grace United Methodist Church, was a member of the Marcus Senior Citizens and a past member of the Marcus American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth and Gerald of Marcus and Richard of Homer, Nebraska. One brother, Herman Miller of LeMars and four sisters, Mrs. Ray (Emilia) Bogh of LeMars, Mrs. Walter (Esther) Galvin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. Johann (Martha) Miller of Marcus and Mrs. Einar (Rose) Olson of Lincoln, Nebr., fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Vernon, two daughters, Margaret and Bonnie, and seven brothers and a sister.
