Niels P. Pallesen, 72, of Marcus died suddenly Thursday evening at his home, his death being the result of a heart attack. He had been in normal health until shortly before his death.

Mr. Pallesen was born march 25, 1895 in Burum, Denmark, coming to this country when he was 16 years of age. He lived in Chicago a time before coming to this area in 1914.

He served in the United States Army in World War I, and May 29, 1918, was married to Marie Miller in Sioux City.

Since leaving the service he spent almost his entire life in the Marcus community. He farmed for a brief time in South Dakota. He also farmed here, was with Simonsen Mill for manay years, and for several years was with the A.S.C.S.

Mr. Pallesen was active in American Legion affairs, and held a number of offices at local, district and state levels. He also was instrumental in organizing World War I veterans in this area.

In addition to Mrs. Pallesen, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry Bates of Rochester, NY, and Mrs. Loren Corrington of Aurelia, Iowa; and three sons, Kenneth and Gerald of Marcus, and Richard of Hubbard, Neb. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Martha Anderson in Chicago and one living in Denmark. There are 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Grace Methodist Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Robert Truitt officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Albert Bilsland and Mrs. Cecil Irwin with Mrs. Carl Klingborg at the piano.

Burial was in the Marcus and Amherst cemetery with Nelson Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Joseph Broblek, Harold Geringer, Allen Wagler, Robert Miller, Curtis Miller and Keith Bogh.
