James T. Letts

James T. Letts, 72 of Spirit Lake, Iowa and formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, died Saturday January 13, 2007, at his home in Spirit Lake, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be held Wednesday January 17, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., with a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Military graveside services will be held by the V.F.W., L.A. Wescott Post # 2253. Donations are requested for the Lakes Regional Hospice Care in Spirit Lake, Iowa. James was born November 26, 1934 in Camden, New Jersey to Harry and Mary (Nelms) Letts. He attended school in Newport News, Virginia. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952, serving from 1952-1954. Following his military service he married Kathleen Peck on February 19, 1955 in Manhattan Beach, California. Jim worked as an electrician in a shipyard in California and later for Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, California, before moving to Cherokee, Iowa in 1965. Jim worked for Wilson Foods Inc., in Cherokee, Iowa for many years, retiring in 1997. They moved to their home in Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1997. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, boating, and driving his pickup truck and riding his bike.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Barb Cooper, and her husband, Don, of Cherokee, Iowa; Deborah Morrow, and her husband, Ike, of Larrabee, Iowa; brothers, Harry Letts, Jr., and his wife, Sharon, of O’Fallon, Illinois; Raymond Staton and his wife, Karen, of Williamsburg, Virginia; sisters, Carol Fallin, and her husband, Warren, of Summerfield, Florida; Pat Mesic, and her husband, Buster, of Newport News, Virginia; Marie Privette, and her husband, Steve, of Newport News, Virginia; Nancy Thomas, and her husband, Steve, of Newport News, Virginia; Marylou Hudson, and her husband, Garland, of Orange Park, Florida; a granddaughter, Amy Tilton, and her husband, Chuck, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
