Cherokee Chronicle Times, Monday, January 15, 2007

Anna Elizabeth Meyer 96, formerly of Quimby, died Jan. 7, 2007, in Bullhead City, Ariz.

There will be a memorial service for her in June to allow for all her great grandchildren to attend.

She was born Jan. 26, 1910, the youngest of three surviving daughters born to Jacob and Katherine Brechwald. She spent a lot of her early years working in her parent's businesses which included a grocery and dry goods business, a drug store, and a movie theater. She enjoyed helping out in these various businesses, but she did not enjoy candling eggs.

She taught in Cherokee County's rural schools for seven years prior to her marriage to Harold Jacob Meyer on May 25, 1935. They farmed northwest of Quimby where they raised their son, Kenneth Meyer (Philomath, Ore.), and their two daughters, Carolyn Anderson (Sioux City) and Joyce Green (Laughlin, Nev.) She returned to teaching in 1952. She taught at Grand Meadow School for the next 20 years. Upon her retirement, she received a life membership in Iowa State Education Association.

Anna and Harold sold their farm in 1970 and moved into their new home in Storm Lake. They spent most of their retirement years there, with winters spent in southern Texas. They very much enjoyed their family, friends, card parties, and their yearly Canadian fishing trips.

After her husband died, she sold their Storm Lake home and moved to Texas. She lived there almost thirteen years and then moved to Nevada where she lived with her daughter, Joyce Green, until her death.

Anna was preceded in death by her first born daughter, Marilyn; her husband, Harold; her grandson, Jason Kenneth Meyer; her son-in-law, Norman Green; and her two sisters, Marie Lundberg and Ella Frances Lundberg.

Anna had seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
