Charles E. Stoner, 78, of Cherokee, died suddenly, Thursday Dec. 7, 2006 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, Cherokee.
Services will be held Monday Dec. 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cherokee. His body will be cremated following the service, with interment to follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, at a later date.
Visitation will be Sunday Dec. 10 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.greenwoodfuneral.com.
Stoner was born Dec. 22, 1927 in Primghar, to Maurice and Annie (Schutt) Stoner. He was educated in Peterson, graduating from high school in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. Following his military service he returned to the Cherokee area where he worked for Standard Oil for many years in the Cherokee and Denison, areas.
Later in his life, he worked for the Cherokee Mental Health Institute in the dietary department, retiring in 1990. On June 24, 1951 he married Evelyn Grauer in Cherokee.
He enjoyed his gardening and he was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veteran's.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Patty Rumfield, and her husband, Scott, and their daughter, Erin, of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Iva Sagert, of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter (Kathleen, 1965) and a sister, Elsie.
