Harriet Leighninger

Harriet Leighninger, 81, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Stanberry, Missouri, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at 10:30 A.M. at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church, Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate.

Additional services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, December 3, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Stanberry, Missouri. Burial will be in the Highridge Cemetery in Stanberry, Missouri. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Memorials are requested for the new keyboard at Meriden Evangelical Free Church.

Harriet was born January 26, 1925 in Stanberry, Missouri to Arlis and Marguerite (DeMoss) Vogt. She attended school in Stanberry, Missouri, graduating from Stanberry High School in 1943. Following her high school education she attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri and the University of Wyoming in Laramie,Wyoming.

On March 23, 1945 she married Robert Leighninger in Stanberry, Missouri. He preceded her in death September 23, 1999. They owned and operated Vogt Poultry Company in Stanberry, Missouri for many years. She enjoyed her family and spending time listening to big band music with her husband. She was witty, a free spirit and loved being the life of the party.

Survivors include sons, David Leighninger of Germany and his wife, Judy; Daniel Leighninger; her daughter, Robin Bunch, and her husband, Daryl, of Cherokee, Iowa.

Grandchildren, Amy Taheri, and her husband, Kevin, of Casper, Wyoming; Bradley Leighninger, and his wife, Sarah, of Springfield, Missouri; Jamie Staveness, and her husband, Eric, of Cherokee, Iowa; Josh Leighninger, and his wife, Kristen, of Kansas City, Missouri; Rob Bunch, of Cherokee, Iowa; Betsy Leighninger, of Neosho, Missouri;
Andy Bunch, of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister, Nancy Wyer, and her husband, George, of Savannah, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Gene Hiett, of Stanberry, Missouri.

Great-grandchildren, Jolie, Branson, Maddie, and Kade Taheri. Several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters (Jane Hiett and Martha McWilliams) and 1 nephew (Chris Wyer)
