Norene 'Kay' Tewes

LARRABEE, Iowa -- Norene "Kay" Tewes, 70, of rural Larrabee, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in the Spencer (IA) Hospital, with her family at her side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa, with Pastor Clint Hogrefe officiating. Burial will be in O’Brien Liberty Cemetery at Calumet, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Kay was born Dec. 21, 1935, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Ernest "Slim" Mugge and Clara (Kopp) Mugge. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1953. She received her teaching certificate from Morningside College in Sioux City.

She was married to Roger Tewes on Aug. 23, 1957, at Worthington, Minn. She had lived in the rural Larrabee area all her life. She was a grade school teacher for a few years and later worked for Jeanne’s Boutique and Fashionette for 17 years.

She was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. Kay enjoyed doing cross stitching, spending time with her grandkids, crossword puzzles and flower gardening. She also loved making beaded bookmarkers and sharing them with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Roger; three daughters, Lynette Mummert and her husband, Tom of Larrabee, Roxanne Crew and her husband, Jeff of Spencer, Iowa and Diane Kiepe and her husband, Terry of Spencer; seven grandchildren, Mike and Linda Mummert, Breanne and Paul Richter, Jennifer, Mike and Steven Crew, Katie and Lexi Kiepe; three great-grandchildren, Adam, Simon and Hanna; and two sisters, Janet McFarlane and her husband, John and Marge Mugge, all of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Steven.
