George A. Rhea
George A. Rhea, 83, of Sioux City, formerly of rural Cherokee, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ethan Sayler officiating. Burial will be in Afton Township Cemetery, with military rites. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
George was born June 19, 1923, in Cherokee, to William and Nora (Funk) Rhea. He graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippines.
He was married to Doris Jetschat on Jan. 12, 1951, in Atlantic, Iowa. He had farmed all his life. He had just recently moved to an apartment in Sioux City from his farm in Afton Township.
He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by two sisters, Janis Myers of Wayne, Neb., and Janet and her husband, Gus Kai of Aurelia, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Virginia Rhea of Quimby, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris in 1978; a brother, Rob
