Ron C. Brown, 69, of Cherokee, died Nov. 16, 2006 in the St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held November 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in the Altoona Memorial Park at Altoona, at a later date. Visitation will be on Nov. 24 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. The family will be present at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Ron was born November 28, 1936 at Marshalltown, to H.C. & Alverta (Lacey) Brown. He graduated from Johnston High School, Class of 1954. He attended Northwestern College in Orange City for two years. He was married to Karen Harmon on July 21, 1963 at Cherokee. He had worked at Wilson Foods, now Tyson's for many years, retiring in 2004.
He returned to work in 2005 working for the security company at Tyson Foods. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. He was also a member and Past Master of Speculative Lodge #307 A.F. & A.M. and had served as secretary for over 20 years, a member of Sioux City Consistory, was a Knight of St. Andrews, a Knight of the York Cross of Honor and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He enjoyed buying and selling guns and time spent with his dog "Max".
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Karen on January 31, 2002 and one brother Floyd Brown.
He is survived by two brothers and one sister: Dwight Brown and his wife Carol of Altoona; Henry Brown and his wife Pat of Colfax; Darlene Rose and her husband Ron of Slater; two nieces and one nephew: Chris Lewis, Stephanie & Mike Hosier, Mike & Beth Brown and their family's nine children; 3 brothers-in-law and their wife: Larry and Colleen Harmon of Cherokee; Mel and Joan Harmon of Mesa, Ariz.; Dean and Jan Harmon of Moline, Ill.; 2 sisters-n-law and their husbands: Marilyn and Dick Kreisel of Aurelia; Marlene and Virgil Madison of Mesa, Ariz.; his step-mother-in-law Rosie Harmon of Cherokee.
