La Vera H. Kraft, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cherokee. Gregg Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral home in Cherokee. La Vera was born June 27, 1921 in Danbury, to Bernard and Martha (Jensen) Brodersen. She was educated in the Danbury and Anthon area. On January 19, 1939 she married Raymond "Bud" Kraft at Midway in rural Battle Creek. They resided around the Battle Creek, Anthon, and Correctionville area until moving to Cherokee.

La Vera worked at the Cherokee Produce for several years. In the early fifties they moved to Homer, Nebraska and worked at various house jobs. She also worked at Sherman Produce in Sioux City. In 1966, they moved back to Cherokee. La Vera then assisted Bud with his custodial work for Westwood High School in Sloan, I.C. High School in Cherokee, and Washington High School in Cherokee until retiring in 1983. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee.

La Vera is survived by two daughters; Barbara Johnson and her husband, Joe, of Ponca, Neb., Judy Solko and her husband, Marvin, of Calumet; two sons; Dennis Kraft and his wife, Mabeth, of Larrabee; Brian Kraft and his wife, Diane, of Cherokee; two brothers; Raymond Brodersen and his wife, Doris, of Seattle, Wash., James Brodersen and his wife, Fran, of Mapleton; a sister; Delores McDermott of Anthon, 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud (1998), two brothers, Don Brodersen and Norm "Bud" Brodersen, sister Elda Forthum and her husband, Don, a brother-in-law Vincent McDermott.
