Stacey Goodrich, 39, formerly of Cherokee, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Cemetery at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.
Stacey was born March 13, 1967, in Cedar Falls, to Larry and Joyce (Garth) Goodrich. In 1976, she moved with her family to Cherokee, where she was a Washington High School graduate in 1986. She attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, graduating in 1991 with a degree in social work. She returned to Cherokee and was employed by Cherokee Work Services for several years. As a result of her handicap and deteriorating health, she moved to Sioux City, residing at Indian Hills Care Center in 2000. In July 2002, Stacey moved to Manly, Iowa, residing at Manly Care Center, to be closer to her doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
Stacey was the Easter Seal poster child in 1979. She enjoyed all music, romantic comedy movies and due to her strong faith, she embraced a fine sense of humor and positive outlook. Stacey had worked as a counselor at Camp Sunnyside while she was in high school. She truly appreciated the kindness and support of the people of Cherokee and the various communities in which she had lived.
Survivors include her parents, Larry and Joyce Goodrich of Cherokee; a sister, Kelsey Goodrich of Omaha; a brother, Garth Goodrich of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Garth of Cedar Falls; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, George Garth; fraternal grandparents, Dale and Mona Goodrich; and her aunt, Sherri Goodrich.
