Dr. Andrew G. Connell, 68 , widely known Aurelia veterinarian, died unexpectedly of a heart attack last Thur, Dec. 13, shortly after noon, at the drug store here. Although not in the best of health the past few months, his condition was not considered serious and he was preparing to go to the country on a call when the attack occured.
A veteran of WW l, Dr Connell had practiced veterinary medicine in the Aurelia community the past 44 years. During that time he acquired a host of friends. Generous to a fault, " The Doctor" , as he called himself, found great pleasure in treating the youngsters of the community as he met them on the street.He never charged alot for his services. His many acts of kindness endeared him to the community.
Dr. Connell was a graduate of Storm Lake High School and took his veterinary training at McKillips Veterinary college in Chicogo.
He is survived by a son, Charles Francis Connell, of Lancaster, Ca., and 2 grandchildrenm Carol and Charles Connell; He is survived by 5 brothers and 2 sisters; Charles, Clarence, Francis, and Clara of Storm Lake, John of Oklahoma City, James of Albert City, and Mrs. Sadie Carney of Sacramento, Ca.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 17, from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, and buriel was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Storm Lake.
Palbearers were Harold Nelson, Oren Coombs, and John Christensen of Aureila, Frank O'Mally, Joe O'Mally, and John Duffy of Storm Lake. Military rites were held at the graveside with the Aurelia and the Storm Lake Posts participating.A memorial find is being established to erect a fitting memorial to Dr. Connell. Friends wishing to contribute to the fund may leave their donation at the First Trust and Savings bank and the Farmers National Bank in Aurelia.
