Alta Waters, 95, Cherokee (died 6 Jun 1989)

Mrs. Alta Waters, 95, died Tuesday, June 6, in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Her home was at 407 Ash Street.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday from the Boothby Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Donald Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia. There will be a family prayer service at 2:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was born April 15, 1894, in Webster County. The former Alta Foust, she was married to Earl J. Waters Sept. 4, 1912, in Buena Vista County. She had lived in Cherokee since 1951, prior to this on a farm in Elk Township, Buena Vista County.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ilene Bates, LaHabra, Calif., and Mrs. Ione Barnes, Pollock Pines, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1950, two daughters, one brother and four sisters.
