CHEROKEE ARCHIVES

Dale D. Smith, died Thurs. Mar. 8, 1990 at his home in Afton Township following an extended illness. He had been a resident of Cherokee County his entire life. Services were held Sat. at 10:00 a.m. at the Imamaculate Conseption Catholic Church in Cherokee. Rev. Bruce LeFebvre officiated. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee. Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee was in Charge of arrangements.

Dale was born Nov. 20, 1913 in Afton Township to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith. He attended Cherokee schools and graduated from Wilson High School in 1932. On Apr 6, 1942, he married Elaine Alexander in Cherokee. They farmed in Afton Township for many years. Dale was a member of the Little Sioux Wildlife Assn. a long time 4-H leader, member of the Cherokee Fair board and was County Superintendent of 4-H at the fair. He recieved the Marc Cox award in 1973. He was a former chairman of the ASCS board.on which he served for 29 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine. 3 sons; James of Scotland S.D.; Jerry and Douglas both of Cherokee; and 7 grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Mrs, Patricia Kniss in 1979.
