George A Smith, 73 passed away Wed. Feb. 17th 1988
in the Sioux Valley hospital in Cherokee Ia, following a lingering illness. His home was on a farm in Afton Township where he had lived his entire life.

He was born Dec. 25, 1914 on the family farm in Afton Township Cherokee County Ia. He was married to Letha Small on Dec. 31, 1938 ar Elkton S.D. He had farmed in Afton Township his entire life and had done custom corn shelling and trucking.
He was affiliated with the St. Paul United Methodist Church, was an Afton Township trustee, a former Afton Township school board menber, a long time pilot having owned an Aeronca Champion and an Aeronca Sedan.

He is survived by his wife, Letha , 3 sons, Edward & John of Cherokee and Floyd of Storm Lake; 4 daughters; Mrs. Gary ( Bonnie ) Lewis; of Aurelia; Mrs. Larry ( Ruby ) Johnson of Cherokee; Mrs. Russell ( Doris) Grashoff Cherokee and Mrs. Darrell (Roberta) Underwood of Sioux City. 19 grand-children, 2 great-grandchildren and 1 brother, Joseph Ray Of Cherokee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Robert ( Bus) in 1946.

Funeral Services were held on Sun. Feb 21 at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev J. Donald Johnson officiatting with buriel in Afton Township Cemetery with Boothby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
