Viola Maxine (Burgett) Linquist 77, died Oct. 3, 2006 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. Funeral services is on Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Fist Presbyterian Church in Sibley. Family Prayer Service is at 9:45 a.m. Officiating is Rev. Terry Simm. Interment is at 1:30 p.m. at Galva Cemetery in Galva. Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley is in charge of the arrangements.

Maxine was the third child born to Lloyd C. and Florence (Garland) Burgett, on Feb. 22, 1929. She was born in Oakley in Lucas County, in southern Iowa. As a youth she attended various rural schools in Iowa. At age 14, her parents moved their family to Dallas Iowa, where she attended and graduated from Dallas Consolidated School in 1948. Upon graduating, Maxine moved and made her home in Des Moines, where she worked for 20 years for the Combined Insurance Company as a receptionist and office worker.

In 1962, Maxine married Melvin Linquist of Cherokee, a country farmer. Melvin and Maxine made their home with the three boys, Nick, Jeff and John, on the farm.

Maxine had a great compassion for the elderly and people with disabilities. She was a caregiver for many years, working in nursing homes, hospitals and home health work.

She loved to go fishing with Melvin and play cards. Maxine enjoyed her family and made the holidays very special. She enjoyed baseball and watching John play baseball. She also enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes and the Cubs. Dinner Date and the VFW Auxiliary were special to her.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. She was also a member of William Allord Auxiliary VFW Post 7373 of Sibley.

Survivors include her children: Jeff Linquist of Rock Rapids, and his son: Jeremy; John and Darla Linquist and their children: Matthew and Suzanne of Sibley; two sisters: Mary of El Cajon, Calif. Deloris of Dallas, Iowa; three brothers: Dwaine of Des Moines, Richard of Calif. Donald of New Virginia, Iowa. Many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Melvin, stepson Nick, parents, one sister Luella, one brother Garland "Sid".
