Maynard C. Stief, 76, of rural Cherokee, Iowa died Sunday, Oct. 1 at his farm home in rural Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Richard Arndt will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherokee Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Maynard was born Jan. 27, 1930 in Aurelia to Carl and Erna (Roggow) Stief.

He attended schools at Brooke Consolidated School, rural Peterson. He was married to Donna Dilocker on Jan. 25, 1953 in Cherokee. His home was on a farm southeast of Cherokee, having been a resident of Cherokee County all his life. He had trucked all his life and farmed from 1963 until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, having served as an elder, a trustee, the stewardship committee, financial committee, a member of the Men's Club and the Dartball league. Maynard drove many miles to be in parades and loved showing off his horses. He enjoyed attending horse sales and giving rides for wedding parties and other community functions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, 4 sons and 1 daughter: Michael Stief and his wife Tonya of Seminole, Okla.; M. Pat Stief and his wife Deb of Traer; Machelle "Shelley" Stickler and her husband Rick of La Porte City; Mark Stief and his wife Kathy of Larrabee; Marlin Stief and his wife Amy of Cherokee; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; one brother and one sister: Mahlon Stief and his wife Irene of San Antonio, Texas; Joan Ballantyne and her husband Keith of Cherokee.
