CULP, DEAN, ABELS, LARUE, GROTHE

Emma A. Culp. 72, died at the home of her daughter near Cherokee Friday morning. Funeral services were held at the Appleyard and Boothby funeral home at 12:45 o'clock Sunday afternoon and at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church at Paullina. Burial was in the Paullina cemetery. Rev. M. P. Arrasmith was in charge of the services.
Emma Adelaide Dean, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Amos N. Dean, was born at Blairstown, Iowa, Dec. 6, 1860, and passed away at 6:10 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ben Abels, at Cherokee, May 12, 1933, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 17 days.
Her childhood and younger life was spent in Benton County, where she was married in 1878 to Henry Griffin Culp.
In 1893, they moved to O'Brien county on a farm near Paullina where they made their home for several years and later moved to town where she resided until a few years after her husband's death. The next few years she spent at Greenville, Iowa, where she lived happily with her sister, Mrs. Julia LaRue, who was buried on Mother's day three years ago. Since the death of her sister, Mrs. Culp has spent most of the time with her daughter, Miriam of Cherokee.
Her Christian life began in childhood and from the days of her childhood she has been affiliated with the church. During the days of her health and strength she was always active in the church and community in which she lived. The one characteristic of her life was loving, joyous service for others.
She was the mother of ten children, six of whom have preceded her in death. Those preceding her are: Frank, Henry, Sadie, Lola, Myrtle, and Clarence. Those living are Lewis, Alma, Harold, and Miriam. She also leaves six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Grothe of Pomona. Calif.
