Fred Hoxsie, 94, Cherokee, and formerly of Marcus, died Sunday at Countryside Estates Care Center in Cherokee.
Services were held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Marcus. Monsignor Gerald Lyon officiated with burial in the parish cemetery. The Nelson-Earnest Funeral Home of Marcus was in charge.
Mr. Hoxsie was born May 15, 1892, at Marcus to William and Susan (Franck) Hoxsie. He was a lifelong member of Cherokee County, and a resident of Cherokee the last 40 years. He married Clara Van Sickle in Cherokee. He was a partner in Hoxsie Brothers Garage and Trucking Service for many years.
Mr. Hoxsie was a World War I veteran serving in the U.S. Army infantry in France; was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, and former member of the American Legion Goodburn Post N. 517, Marcus.
He was preceded in death by a brother and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include a son, Fred Hoxsie Jr. of Le Mars; two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Audrey) Smith, Yankton, S.D. and Mrs. Ab(Donna) Smith, Marcus; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
