Mrs. Julia A. Sheldon of Afton Township, Cherokee County IA. died on the 4th. of July, 1900 and was buried the next day at Peterson Ia. Pastor Carrol, of Cherokee, conducting the service.
Mrs. Sheldon was born June, 7, 1816, in Onondago Coumty, N.Y.. In 1834, she moved with her parents to Ashyabula Co. Ohio. On Apr. 3 , 1834 she married Erastus N. Sheldon. there were 8 children born to them, but only 3 survived, the oldest being Mary J Strawson, Of Monroe, Wisc.; Vana A. Remington, of Waverly, Ia., and Albert N Sheldon, of Cherokee Co. Ia. with whom she had lived for the last twenty one years . She was converted and joined the Baptist Church when she was 27 years old and lived a cheerful, consistent Christian life for nearly 60 years, being 84 when she died.
The following lines she wanted to be considered as her parting words to all friends.

Farewell, vain world, I must be gone, I have no home nor stay with you; I'll take my staff and travel on,Till I a better world will view, Farewell, farwell, my loving friends, farewell.
