Orlan L. Ebert

MARCUS, Iowa -- Orlan Louis Ebert, 66, of Minocqua, Wis., formerly of Marcus, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Providence Place in Minneapolis from complication following kidney cancer.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Dec. 3 at Lakeland Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Minocqua, Wis.

Orlan Louis Ebert was born at home May 23, 1939, in Marcus Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, to Emil and Irene (Schuknecht) Ebert. He graduated from Marcus High School and later attended college at the University of Minnesota.

He married Karess Kannenberg on Oct. 15, 1961. They made their home in Iowa and Minnesota before settling in Wisconsin. He was a skilled carpenter and dealt with all aspects of the trade. He spent the majority of his life working in the beautiful Minocqua-Manitowish Waters area of Wisconsin.

He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. His church and its family were a pivotal part of his life. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, horseback riding and hunting. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren. His philosophy was to "go after your hearts desire, substitutes don't count."

He will be lovingly remembered by a son, Brian of Minneapolis; two daughters, Deanna Ebert and her husband, Lee Hinman, and Debbie Ebert, all of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Nadia Hinman and Elijah Avent, both of Minneapolis; a sister, Marlys Donner of Aledo, Ariz.; three brothers, Vernon Ebert and his wife, Dorothy, of Green Valley, Ariz., Bernell Ebert of Mason City, Iowa, and Marvin Ebert and his wife, Lorna, of Marcus; a sister-in-law, Bev Galles of Marcus; a brother-in-law, Bill Means of Prescott, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delores Means and Bernita and her husband, Jim Means; and a brother, Leon.

Memorials are preferred to the Kidney Cancer Association or the American Cancer Society.
