Mark A. Glackin

WOODBINE, Iowa -- Mark A. Glackin, 33, former principal of Woodbine Middle/High School who was recently named superintendent of Armstrong-Ringsted Schools, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, in a motorcycle accident.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa. Burial will be 4:30 p.m. Monday in Holy Name Cemetery, Marcus, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at St. Patrick's Church. Mark Allen Glackin was born Oct. 16, 1971, to Joseph and Alice (Long) Glackin in Cherokee, Iowa. He graduated from Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1990. On June 22, 1991, Mark married Lynne Lauters at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Mark graduated with a bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI).

Mark continued taking classes through Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, and was awarded a master's degree. He was currently working through UNI to obtain his specialist's degree to become a superintendent.

Mark taught at Long Prairie, Minn., Rockwell City-Lytton, and Denison, Iowa. He served as principal at Sac City and Woodbine High School. This summer he accepted the superintendent's job at Armstrong-Ringsted Schools.

Survivors include his wife, Lynne of Woodbine; three children, Jodi, Patrick and Alexandria of Woodbine; his mother, Alice Glackin of Marcus; five siblings, Lori and her husband, Jim Longmore of Mankato, Minn., Judy and her husband, Ken Cuddy of Lincoln, Neb., Doug Glackin and his wife, Carol of Greenfield, Iowa, Lt. James Glackin and his wife, Penny of Watervliet, N.Y., and Melissa and her husband, Mark Groskreutz of Wells, Minn.; parents-in-law, Doug Lauters and his wife, Heidi of Elgin, Iowa; brothers-in-law Dean Lauters and his wife, Lisa of Marion, Iowa, Tony Lauters and his wife, Terri of Hawarden, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers-in-law, Denny Lauters and Bill Schipull.
