Margaret J. Greene

CLEGHORN, Iowa -- Margaret J. Greene, 85, of Elkhorn, Neb., formerly of the Marcus, Iowa, and Cleghorn areas, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at Life Care Center in Elkhorn.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus with Pastor Liz Pfeifle officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.

Margaret was born Jan. 27, 1920, at Peterson, Iowa, the daughter of Charles D. and Hazel J. (Hall) Lee. She attended school at Peterson, Kimball, Neb., and Hartley, Iowa, and graduated from high school in 1938 at Aurelia, Iowa.

Margaret and Melvyn Greene were united in marriage on Feb. 28, 1940, in Cherokee, Iowa. Margaret and Melvyn lived in Marcus where they raised their family. In 1985 after Melvyn's retirement, they moved to Cleghorn where they lived until 2004 when they moved to the Life Care Center in Elkhorn. Melvyn died Aug. 31, 2004, at Elkhorn.

Margaret always stressed the importance of family to her loved ones, and gave her best to set a good example for them to follow. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Linda and Larry Kohn of Waterloo, Neb.; three grandchildren, Chad Kohn, Bret Kohn and his wife, Carol, and Megan French; a great-grandson, Shawn Carter; a sister-in-law, Glenna George of Denison, Iowa; a niece, Cherie McMullen; and three nephews, Bill Ryan, Kevin Greene and Rod Keller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvyn; a daughter, Kathy French; and two brothers-in-law, Mike Greene and Joe George.
