Darrel W. Sturgeon

Darrel W. Sturgeon, 79, of Pharr, Texas, and formerly of Aurelia and Cherokee, died on Sept. 10, 2006, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.

His body was cremated at Val Verde Crematory in Donna, Texas. Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee at a later date. Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen, Texas, is in charge of the arrangements.

Darrel Sturgeon was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Aurelia, to Raymond J. and Hazel Dyslin Sturgeon.

He graduated from Aurelia High School and entered the U.S. Navy. After discharge from the Navy, he worked for Engle Implement and Fareway Stores in Cherokee. He was then employed by the Iowa DOT from which he retired in 1984.

Upon retirement Darrel and his wife, Bonnie moved to McAllen. While in Texas Darrel was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Wood Carvers and St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steven; and his brothers, Roger and Arlo.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Sturgeon of Pharr, Texas; his daughter, Pam of McAllen; his sister, Shirley (Jim) Blair of Roswell, N.M.; and his brother, Dale, of Arnold's Park, Iowa.
