Edward R. Boothby

QUIMBY, Iowa -- Edward R. Boothby, 85, lifelong resident of the Washta and Quimby area, passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center after suffering a stroke.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Quimby United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carolyn Hollar officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Quimby, with military rites conducted by the Quimby American Legion. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Ed was born Feb. 17, 1920, at Washta, Iowa, to Earl and Mae (Ackerman) Boothby. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1938 and then entered the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II. After being discharged from the Navy, Ed started farming in Tilden Township.

On Sept. 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Linnea Klingborg. They farmed for 15 years. He then went to work as a carpenter for Roth & Associates in Storm Lake, Iowa. Ed retired in 1983 but still did small jobs around the area.

He was a member of Quimby United Methodist Church, Little Sioux Masonic Lodge 521 at Washta, Iowa, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Sioux City, Quimby Lions Club and was a 50-year member of the Quimby American Legion.

Survivors include a son, Robert Boothby and his wife, Jane, of Marcus, Iowa; a daughter, Carol Wait and her husband, Floyd of O'Fallon, Mo.; five grandchildren, Mandy Boothby of Marcus, Iowa, Mindy and Garth Thomas of Burnsville, Minn., Mike Boothby of St. Louis, Mo., Marcey and Ron Rauert of Omaha, Neb. and Troy and Shannon Kemp-Wait of Omaha; five great-grandchildren, Jessamyn and Tucker Kemp-Wait, Ryan Rauert, Christian and Logan Thomas; and a brother-in-law, Rudy Klingborg and his wife, Dorothy of Moline, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linnea on Oct. 22, 2003; a son, Johnny; and two sisters, Wava Bush and Erma Kuhl.
