William R. 'Willie' Lindquist

QUIMBY, Iowa -- William R. "Willie" Lindquist, 79, of rural Quimby passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, with the Rev. Bob Stout officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William was born on Jan. 24, 1926, in Lincoln, Neb., and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Hilda and Gust Roseen, after the untimely death of his parents. He attended country school through the eighth grade and then worked on the family farm.

He was married in 1949. He worked at the Cherokee Creamery as a route driver for many years before beginning employment at Wilson Foods in Cherokee for a 12-year period during which time he bought a farm near Quimby. He retired from Wilson Foods in 1976 to farm full-time.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was an avid sports fan and loved football, NASCAR racing and his beloved St. Louis Cardinals in major league baseball. He was also a great fan of local dirt track racing. He will be remembered for his gifts of generosity, humor and love of life.

Survivors include a son, Robert Lindquist and his wife, Ruth, of Quimby; a daughter, Shirley Thompson of Cherokee; a daughter, Patricia Montgomery and her husband, John, of Aurelia, Iowa; a son, Joshua Lindquist of McCook Lake, S.D.; four grandchildren, Dixie, Callie, Boni and Bill; as well as several great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Booker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt and uncle; as well as several brothers and sisters.
