CLEGHORN, Iowa -- Leland J. "Lee" Bush, 81, of Cleghorn passed away peacefully into eternal life with Christ Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center in Cherokee, Iowa, where he had been a resident since September 1999.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Maryhill Visitation Church in rural Cherokee, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Maryhill Visitation Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a celebration of life service at 7 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Condolences may be sent online to www.greenwoodfuneral.com .

Lee was born July 12, 1924, to Jacob and Lillian (Kirchoff) Bush. He was a resident of and farmed in Cherokee County, Iowa, his entire life. He received his elementary education at the Maryhill and Rock Township schools, graduating from Quimby (Iowa) High School in 1941.

He married Erma Kay Ruden on Aug. 2, 1950 at St. Joseph's Church in Le Mars, Iowa. They lived on the Bush family century farm south of Cleghorn.

He was a gentleman and a gentle man. He was a kind, caring, fun loving person who dearly loved spending time with his wife and also his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed dancing, parties with friends and tending to his farm animals.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Erma; three sons, Robert (Tami) Bush of Cherokee, Jacob Bush of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and William Bush of Cleghorn; four daughters, Lynette (Don) Reinholdt of Pocahontas, Iowa, Joan Bierman of Marcus, Iowa, Arlene (Dave) Alesch of Marcus and Jane Ann (Jeff) Putzier of Boone, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Dian Bush of Kingsley, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-stepgrandchild; a brother, Jim (Eileen) of Cleghorn; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Delaney-Bush of Sioux City and Mary Ann Bush of Cleghorn.

He was preceded in death by a son, John; two children in infancy, Jared and Lizbeth; his parents; a stepfather, Chester Peck; and two brothers, Henry (Daria) and Lester Bush.
