Henrietta M. Massmann

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Henrietta M. Massmann, 89, of 626 Park Ave., Cherokee, formerly of Marcus, Iowa, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Cherokee Villa following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Rev. James Gruber officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery, Marcus. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Henrietta was born June 27, 1915, in Paullina, Iowa, to Reinhart and Carolyn (Kruse) Fegebank. She attended school in Paullina.

On Jan. 20, 1937, she married Melborn Massmann in Paullina. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1993.

She was a homemaker all of her life and was active on the family farm until 1996. Henrietta enjoyed gardening, sewing and playing cards. She will be remembered for her baking and cooking. Her family will especially miss her pfeffernuts, ginger snaps, fudge, homemade bread and chicken sandwiches. She was especially fond of practical jokes and always loved a good time.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church for many years and enjoyed the social activity at the monthly quilting guild.

Survivors include daughters, Phyllis Parrott of Cherokee, Pearl Henke and her husband, Ron of Marcus, Lynette Ross and her husband, Ron of Joplin, Mo., and Betty Massmann of Cherokee; sons, Charles Massmann and his wife, Betty of Calumet, Iowa, Donald Massmann and his wife, Marge of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Clifford Massmann and his wife, Pauline of Houston, Texas; sisters, Irene Massmann, Clara Niebuhr, Ida Paulsen and her husband, Clarence, Helen Kruger and her husband, Ralph, all of Paullina, and Berniece Bonderman of Veradale, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Mabel Fritz; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Massmann; a son-in-law, Gerald Parrott; a granddaughter, Angie Henke; and a great-grandson, Cole Gries.
