Bernice Margaret Lawniczak

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Bernice Margaret Lawniczak, 94, Cherokee, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center, following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, with the Revs. Armand Bertrand and Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of America and a parish scripture service will be at 7 p.m. On-line condolences may be sent at greenwoodfuneral.com

Bernice was born Aug. 11, 1910, to Frank and Anna (Steus) Mackowski in Bantree, N.D. She was educated in North Dakota. In 1925, she married John Lawniczak in Sioux City. He preceded her in death in 1963. During her life she had worked for Nelson's Drug Store, McWilliams Drug Store and as housekeeper at the Immaculate Conception Rectory. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed crocheting and taking care of her cat.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen Severietti, Novato, Calif.; grandchildren, Nancy Boyd and her husband, Nathan, Novato, Calif, Vicki Chavez and her husband, Matthew, Sebastopol, Calif., Linda Torres and her husband, Ricardo, Rohnert Park, Calif.; Ted Severietti and his wife, Lisa, Peoria, Ariz.; seven great grandchildren; a sister Stella Hahn, Los Gatos, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter Jane Michelsen and her brothers and sisters.
