William H. Moret

WASHTA, Iowa -- William H. Moret, 82, of Washta passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Washta United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carolyn Hollar officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sheridan Township Cemetery, Boyden, Iowa. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

William was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Boyden, Iowa, to Hugo and Cornelia (Vander Aarde) Moret. He attended country school.

He was married to Leona Boone on Dec. 9, 1946, in Sheldon, Iowa. He had worked for the Sioux County Maintenance Department, Armour's Produce in Sheldon, Iowa, and Cherokee County road crew. He worked for Wilson Food Corp. from April 1966 until retiring in 1984. He was a long time Washta resident. He also was a salesman for many years selling McNess Products.

He was a member of Washta United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School superintendent and with the Plymouth County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed meeting people in his sales work and time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; nine children, Linda (Roger) Groves of Hinton, Iowa, Dennis (Cindy) Moret of Sioux City, Lloyd Moret of Washta, Dave (Jean) Moret of Washta, Sheryl (Mike) Hofer of Kingsley, Iowa, Richard (Michelle) Moret of South Sioux City, Clyde (Carla) Moret of Windom, Minn., Laura (Russ) Schmidt of Cherokee, Iowa, and Lisa Lovan of Storm Lake, Iowa and her special friend, Jeff Hummel of Cherokee; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Brian and Alan Moret; a son-in-law, Bounsom Lovan; two sisters, Margaret Moret and Geneva Haspels; and three brothers, Andrew, Harold and Alvin Moret.
