CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Sophie F. Reinert, 86, of Cherokee died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Deacon Leroy Rupp officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Condolences may be sent on-line to www.greenwoodfuneral.com .
Sophie was born June 19, 1919, in Rock Branch, Iowa, to Carl and Emma (Reuss) Carlsen. She attended school in Anthon, Iowa.
On Nov. 18, 1939, she married Clayton Reinert in Anthon. He preceded her in death in 1986. They farmed near Anthon for several years. In 1950, they moved to Cherokee, where she worked for the Hartley Creamery. She later was employed as a cook at the Chalet Restaurant and the Cherry Street Nursing Home. They also ran a taxi service in Cherokee for several years.
She enjoyed sewing and other crafts, playing cards, as well as her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly and her husband Roger Jackson of Cherokee and Becky Pratt of Cherokee; a son and his wife, Mike and Connie Reinert of Ruthven, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Patton of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death y her husband; two sons, Clayton Jr. and Richard Reinert; a daughter, Barb Johnson; and a granddaughter, Lori Jarmuzek.
