CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Louise George, 93, of Cherokee died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Maryhill Visitation Catholic Church, rural Cherokee, with the Rev. Gene Sitzmann officiating. Burial will be in Maryhill Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with a parish Scripture service at 7 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Condolences may be sent on-line to www.greenwoodfuneral.com .

Louise (Wienk) George was born July 19, 1912, to John and Louise (Stuever) Wienk, in Marcus, Iowa. She attended Marcus Public Schools. After finishing school, she worked in the Marcus area. She then moved to California during World War II and worked at Douglas Aircraft.

She moved back to Cherokee and married Henry George on Sept. 9, 1943. The couple farmed in the Maryhill area until his death in 1976. Following his death, she moved into Cherokee.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee and the Ladies Guild. She loved to play cards with friends and grandchildren as well as crochet, garden and take care of her flowers.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Larry and Linda George of Shenandoah, Iowa, Lyle and Janet George of Windsor, Calif., Daniel and Vicke George of Pahrump, Nev., and Kenneth and Gayle George of Meriden, Iowa; a daughter, Karen Holbrook of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Grace Dorr of Marcus, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Ernest Wienk; half brothers, Albert, Frank, Carl and Ed; a half sister, Alvina Kauffman; a daughter-in-law, Janice George in 1992; and grandchildren, Nolan George in 1976 and Janiece Mary in 1978.
