CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Marion M. "Shorty" Brewer, 74, of rural Cherokee passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Gary Swick officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Shorty was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Cherokee, to Harry and Catherine (Parks) Brewer. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1951. He graduated from Watch College in Elgin, Ill. He had worked for A&J Television in Cherokee for many years. He had been a resident of the Cherokee area his entire life.

He was a member of First Church of Christ in Cherokee. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics. He loved bird watching and has made many bluebird houses and distributed them around Cherokee County. He was a ham radio operator. He would polish rocks and make jewelry and clocks out of them. He liked to go hunting and trapshooting.

He is survived by two brothers, George Brewer of Cherokee and Bob McCormack of Hereford, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ray and Marvin Brewer.
