CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Orville B. Ferrin, 93, of Cherokee died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with Lay Pastor Darla Rock officiating. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery of rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. A family prayer service will be at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Orville was born June 30, 1911, on a farm in Tilden Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Queenie (Burbank) Ferrin. He graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1928. He attended Commercial College in Minneapolis, Minn.

He married Helen Harrison on Feb. 4, 1934, in Cherokee County. She died Jan. 20, 1972. He married Lillian (Johnson) Rupp on May 17, 1977, in Cherokee. She died in 2000.

He lived in Grand Meadow and Tilden townships for more than 60 years before moving to Cherokee. He owned and operated Ferrin Plumbing and Electrical for more than 20 years. He worked for Beal's Motor Rewinding for 10 years, retiring in 1973. Following his retirement, he did park maintenance for several years for the City of Cherokee and was self-employed in small appliance repair until 1998.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and served as an elder.

Survivors include a son and three daughters, Joel Ferrin and his wife, Kathleen, of Lake Forest, Ill., Shirley Hiller and her husband, Duane, of Onawa, Iowa, Catherine Orman and her husband, Lee, of Austin, Texas, and Darlys Richard and her husband, Bob, of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-children, Royden Rupp of Cherokee, Mary Margaret Messerole and her husband, Roy, of Le Mars, Iowa, and Dale Rupp and his wife, Peg, of Des Moines, Iowa; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his second wife, Lillian; two granddaughters in infancy; and three brothers, Melvin in 1941, Horace in 1972 and George in 2003.
