CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Stephen P. Cosgrove, 55, of Cherokee died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis following a 10-month illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Steve was born Sept. 15, 1949, in Cherokee, to Peter and Mary (Dushinske) Cosgrove. He attended school in Cherokee, graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in 1967. He attended Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa for one year. He was an employee of Wilson Foods Inc., now Tyson Foods, in Cherokee for 37 years. He was currently employed in the central packaging division. He served in the Iowa National Guard.
On Aug. 21, 1972, he married Donna Kolb in Cherokee. They divorced in 1979. On Oct. 18, 1986, he married Janice Henke in Cherokee.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and served as a former president of Local 179 of the United Food and Commercial Workers. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Pheasants Forever and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, trapshooting and training his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; a daughter and her husband, Kristin and Kai Lewis of St. Cloud, Minn.; sons, Will Cosgrove and his wife, Coralie, of Redmond, Wash., and Wade Cosgrove of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Stephanie Cosgrove, Emily Cosgrove and Addie Cosgrove, all at home; a son, Peter Cosgrove at home; his father, Peter Cosgrove of Cherokee; sisters and spouses, Leanne Cosgrove of Sioux Falls, S.D., Janel and Matt Schleef of Cherokee, Lori and Chris Jensen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dawn Cosgrove Greer and Brad Greer of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Beth and Randy Ripke of Rembrandt, Iowa; two grandchildren, Kalen Lewis and Kade Lewis, both of St. Cloud, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary in 2004.
