Dick was born on May 19, 1927, in Cherokee to Albert and Regina (Wilberding) Rupp. He received his education at the Maryhill school. He later served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning from the service, he worked for Harold Johnston of Cleghorn, Iowa, operating his corn sheller. He became engaged in farming in 1948 with his brothers in Rock and Pilot Township. Dick started his own custom corn shelling business in 1952, which he continued until his retirement in 1998.

On Sept. 1, 1953, he married Frances Ann Lux at Maryhill.

Dick was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Faithful Navigator. He also served in the Navy Reserve, was on the ASCS Board, the Board of Directors for the Farmers Co-Op and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Board.

Dick was a fun-loving person, well known for his sense of humor and notorious one-liners. He loved being around his friends and family and people loved being around him. He had a way of motivating people, making a hard job or bad situation seem not so bad. He took great pride in farming and enjoyed a hard day's work, followed by a nice hot or cold beverage.

Dick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Frances Ann Rupp of Cherokee; four children, Steven Rupp and his wife, Aimee of Cherokee, Diane Rupp of Ames, Iowa, Janet Remillard and her husband, Dick of Beaverton, Ore. and Don Rupp of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, Ann Wolterman, Alecia Rapp, Kayla Remillard, Angela Rupp and Cory Remillard; three great-grandchildren, Emma and Caleb Wolterman and Madison Rupp; sisters, Dorothy Schnoes of Marcus, Iowa and Kitty Kohn of Cherokee; brothers, Delbert Rupp and his wife, Marge of Long Beach, Calif., DuWayne Rupp and his wife, Ethel of Cherokee and Jack Rupp and his wife, Ruby of Ida Grove, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Cele Rupp of Cherokee and Eleanor Rupp of Portland, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Mount; and four brothers, Ralph, Tom, Francis and Kenny Rupp.
