CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Viola Wallace, 86, of Cherokee died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Vista House in Boscobel, Wis., following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Viola was born April 9, 1919, in Minnesota, to Fred and Mary (Leguil) Reinert. She attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1936.
On April 29, 1927, she married Walter Wallace in Centerville, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1984. They lived in Cherokee for many years, where she assisted her husband in the construction business. She also served on the selective service board in Cherokee and Orange City, Iowa, for 19 years. She also worked for a time for Swanson's Food Store in bookkeeping.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Degree of Honor, Ladies Union and NARFE. She worked for Cherokee Area Archives and Cherokee Public Library. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts, antiquing and collecting.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Connie and Gary Pierce of Boscobel, Wis.; grandsons, Mark Pierce and his wife, Pam of Cherokee, Paul Pierce of Madison, Wis., and Bruce Pierce and his wife, Pam of Farmington Hills, Minn.; granddaughters, Lisa and her husband, Doug Stowell of Boscobel, and Kristie and her husband, Shay Cody of Spring Grove, Minn.; a sister, Mary Jane Miller of Cherokee; a brother, Fred Reinert of Cherokee; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Don; and a great-grandson, Matthew.
