CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Kenneth T. Ohlson, 78, of rural Cherokee passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Larry Nilson officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.
Kenneth was born April 16, 1926, in Cherokee, to Clarence and Merle (McCord) Ohlson. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1943.
He was married to Betty Peterson on Feb. 16, 1963, in Cherokee. His home was on a farm southeast of Cherokee, having been a resident of Cherokee County all his life. He had farmed and raised cattle on his farm in Diamond Township for many years, retiring in 1990. Even after his retirement, his love for the farm never ended as he continued to oversee the farming operation. He also was a DeKalb Seed Corn dealer for many years.
He was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church and served in all capacities for various church boards. He served on the Cherokee County board of supervisors from 1979 to 1986. He was an active conservationist. He was one of the original planners of Cherokee County Rural Water and had served on that board for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son and his wife, Kent and Lori Ohlson of Cherokee; two daughters and their husbands, Sara and Duane Anderson of Aurelia, Iowa, and Rachel and Greg Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Alec Torrel, Dylan and Falisha Ohlson, Joshua, Jeremiah and Josiah Anderson and Rylan Hansen; a brother and his wife, Keith and Katherine Ohlson of Meriden, Iowa; two sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Lowell McIntosh of Primghar, Iowa, and Ardythe and Michael Urban of Cherokee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Mildred Ohlson; and a sister, Joanne Miller.
