CLEGHORN, Iowa -- Calvin David "Mac" McGowan, 92, of California passed away peacefully Feb. 27, 2006.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Meriden Cemetery, Meriden, Iowa, with the Rev. Jim Steen officiating. There will be military rites conducted at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.

Calvin was born May 28, 1913. He was married to Lois Genevieve Smith, the daughter of Darwin and Elizabeth (Kinzel) Smith of Cleghorn, Iowa, on March 21, 1942, in San Francisco, Calif. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He had worked as a real estate broker in the San Francisco/Daly City area for 50 years.

He was a member of Columbian Brotherhood Masonic Lodge 370 in California and the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.

He is survived by three children, Linda and her husband, John Loftis of San Lorenzo, Calif., Jim McGowan of South San Francisco, Calif., and Sharon and her husband, Jerry Becker of Walnut Creek, Calif.; four beloved grandchildren, David Schardt, Jodie and her husband, Charley Newsom, Joel Becker and Dawn and her husband, Mark Pesut; six great-grandchildren, Marc, Adam, Brandon, Kailynn, Jerry, Rebecca and Robert; a sister, Mary Ellen Hier of Omaha; two nieces, Colleen and Rachel McGowan and extended family in Omaha; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Francis Smith of Cleghorn, Iowa, Donald Smith and his wife, Delores of Aurelia, Iowa, Iris and her husband, Lyle Schmillen of Seal Beach, Calif., Betty Wyckoff of Mesa, Ariz., and Mary Lundell of Cleghorn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his devoted wife, Lois on Dec. 6, 2003.
