MARCUS, Iowa -- Claude H. Bortscheller, 90, of Marcus died Monday, April 3, 2006, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.

Claude was born July 15, 1915, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Frank and Rosalia (Heissel) Bortscheller. He grew up in the Oyens, Iowa, area, graduating from St. Catherine's in Oyens.

On Sept. 2, 1940, he married Irene E. Rupp at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived and farmed in the Oyens area until moving to the Marcus area. They farmed in the Marcus area until their retirement in 1981.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council from Remsen, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Irene of Marcus; four sons and their wives, Doug and Sharon of Burnsville, Minn., Tom and Kathy of Granville, Iowa, Philip and Judith of Shorewood, Minn., and Mike and Deb of Sioux Falls, S.D.; five daughters and their husbands, Winnie and George Vourvoulias of Green Lake, Wis., Ann and Tim Guntzel of Golden Valley, Minn., Nora and Pat Beelner of Boulder, Colo., Joan and Buck Harte of Brandon, S.D., and Lisa and Ed Tibbetts of Davenport, Iowa; 28 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Mike, Joseph, Ed and Charles Bortscheller; and four sisters, Malitta and Sylvia Bortscheller, Mary Wilberding and Marcella Kleiman.
