WASHTA, Iowa -- Debra Susanne (Meyer) Grell, 36, of Washta, passed away suddenly Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Cherokee Regional Medical Center, Cherokee, Iowa.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Holstein, Iowa, with the Rev. Todd Schlitter officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home, Holstein, Iowa.
Debra Susanne Meyer Grell was born April 17, 1969, at Mason City, Iowa, to James and Patricia (Simmons) Meyer. Debra grew up and graduated from high school in Mason City. She attended Spencer (Iowa) School of Business where she earned a B.A. in accounting.
In her youth she participated in the Iowa Girls Horseshoe pitching contest and won the championship twice. Deb enjoyed all sports, she loved baking, especially cookies, and had an extensive collection of cookie cutters. She enjoyed shopping and being with her children.
She married Jed Grell on June 16, 1990, at Correctionville, Iowa. They lived on a farm near Alta, Iowa, for nine years. She worked at Hy-Vee and also for Service Master of Storm Lake as a book keeper. Then they moved to a farm near Washta, where she stayed at home to raise their three children.
She is survived by her husband, Jed; two daughters, Bethany and Cassie; a son, Jered all at home; her parents, James and Patricia Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her sister, Lori (Shawn) Taylor of Center Point, Iowa; a brother Steven (Gina) Meyer of Stevenson Ranch, Calif.; her father-in-law, Joe Grell and his special friend, Donna Glasson of Washta; two sisters-in-law, Jody (Lloyd) Parker of Anthon, Iowa and Jeri (David) Johannsen of Sutherland, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Matthew Courter, Linda and Callie Taylor, Samatha and Katie Meyer, Keith, Alex, and Jake Parker, Drew and Dax Johannsen and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Owen and Iverne Simmons of Nashua, Iowa, Ubbe and Anna Meyer of Titonka, Iowa; and her mother-in-law, Janet Grell.
