Ruth A. Petty

QUIMBY, Iowa -- Ruth Ann Petty, 78, of Washta, Iowa, formerly of Quimby, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa, from injuries suffered in a two-car accident near Quimby.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Quimby United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carolyn Hollar officiating. Burial will be in Quimby Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 3 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation 2 to 9 p.m. today, with 6 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Ruth was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Hartley, Iowa, to John and Ella (Wiese) Trojahn. She graduated from Moneta Consolidated High School in 1945.

She was married to Clyde L. Petty on Dec. 1, 1947, in Moville, Iowa. She worked as a beautician for the short time and was a caregiver to the elderly. She was a longtime resident of the Quimby and Washta area.

She was a member of Washta United Methodist Church, Twilight Circle, the church historian, has served as the church custodian for a number of years and was a former Boy Scout den mother. She also was a member of the Widow's Card Club and the Washta Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening and making quilts.

She is survived by nine children, Connie Kendrick of Sandusky, Ohio, Linda and Don Lane of Sigourney, Iowa, Deborah and Dale Jorgensen of Richland, S.D., Herschel and Clare Petty of Belpre, Ohio, Reginald and Denise Petty of Washta, Jerome and Debra Petty of Le Mars, Iowa, Angela Olson of Sioux City, Vonda and Timothy Stowell of Cherokee and Melissa Petty of Des Moines; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, Velma Mullins of Hartley, Iowa, Evelyn Roberts of Spencer, Iowa, Dorothy Meelhause of Hartley, June Rose and Irel Bruns of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Orlin and Diane Trojahn of Terril, Iowa, Marvin and Lois Trojahn of Moneta, Iowa, and Allen and Joyce Trojahn of Spencer, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 3, 1984; a daughter, Roberta Petty in 1956; a son-in-law, Thomas Hinds in 1991; and a sister, Leota Aldrich.
