La Vonne R. Robinson
La Vonne Rachael Robinson, 78, of Lakeside, Calif., formerly of Sioux City and Cherokee, Iowa, died May 9, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services were held May 12 in Lakeside. Her wishes were to be cremated and interred in the mountains of Julian, Calif.
La Vonne was born May 4, 1928, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Gladys (Harvey) and Glenn Hatch. She was raised in Washta, Iowa.
On Dec. 28, 1945, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Robinson. They moved to Sioux City, where she worked as a waitress for the Sheraton Hotel. She moved to California in 1970, where she worked for the Sheraton Corporation in San Diego.
She was an avid gardener and an excellent seamstress. Her home was filled with her woodworking projects. Above all, her first loved was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include close long time friend and companion, Jim Turold of Lakeside; a son and his wife, Dennis and Becky Robinson of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Sandra Greeny and Johnny Jones of Lakeside; a brother and his wife, Bob and Beth Hatch of Cherokee; grandchildren, Ryan and Marcia Robinson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Tonya and Wilson Thayer of Lakeside, Holly and Eric Erickson of Kansas City, Trevor and Sandy Greeny of Surprise, Ariz., Jeremy Robinson of Sioux City and Trent Greeny of Lakeside; and great-grandchildren, Amanda Greeny, Sierra Thayer and Willie Thayer, all of Lakeside, Riley and Jenna Robinson of Sioux Falls, Carter and Cale Erickson of Kansas City and Kaila Greeny of Surprise, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Donald and Freeman Hatch; and two sisters, Maxine Priz and Margie Albers.
