Blanche Wickenhagen

CLEGHORN, Iowa -- Blanche Wickenhagen, 90, of Cleghorn passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, with the Rev. Don Meyer officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will resume until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Blanche was born March 6, 1915, in Spencer, S.D., to William and Louisa (McDaniel) Samp. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.

She was married to William Latuska in 1941. He passed away in 1942 in a farming accident. To this union was born a daughter, Ardyce. She was married to Estel R. Wickenhagen in June 1950, in Nevada, Mo. She had worked at the Cleghorn Library for a few years. She had lived in the Cleghorn and Meriden, Iowa, area for 55 years.

She loved to garden, do quilting, crossword puzzles, baking cookies and time spent with her family.

She is survived by two daughters and a son, Ardyce Skaggs of Cherokee, Bonnie Van Veldhuizen of Germantown, Md., and Don Wickenhagen and his wife, Joanne of Hospers, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Bill and Jill Barritt, Carrie and Mike Smeltzer, Jay and Aimee Barritt, Andy Skaggs, Eric and Kelly Van Veldhuizen, Alyssa Van Veldhuizen, Emily and Scott Winters and Heidi Wickenhagen; six great-grandchildren, Jake and Ben Barritt, Nick, Brett and Jennifer Barritt and Zoe Winters; and a sister, Stella Fredrickson of Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Jan. 31, 1963; a son, Roger Wickenhagen in 2002; three brothers; and six sisters.
