CLEGHORN, Iowa -- Duane L. Nafziger, 76, of Cleghorn passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, with Bob Blair officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Meriden Cemetery, Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Duane was born June 6, 1929, in Cleghorn, to Walter and Leila Nafziger. He graduated from Cleghorn High School. He then served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated from Sioux City Barber College. He had been a resident of Cleghorn most of his life.
He was married to Joan Stoneking on April 12, 1952, in Quimby, Iowa. He barbered in a couple other communities before setting up his own barber shop in Cleghorn, which he operated for many years. He also worked for CML Telephone for several years and was employed at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Cleghorn Christian Church. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars L.A. Wescott Post 2253 in Cherokee, the Cleghorn American Legion and a life member of the U.S.M.C. Drill Instructors.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; four children and spouses, Mark and Karen Nafziger of Baltimore, Md., Jeff and Susan Nafziger of Holbrook, Ariz., Kris and Deb Nafziger of Gettysburg, S.D., and Kelli Nafziger of Chandler, Ariz.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Verne Nafziger and his wife, Lois of Richland, Mich., Robert Nafziger of Nipomo, Calif., and Larry Nafziger and his wife, Mary of Euless, Texas; a sister and her husband, Maxine and Robert Demaree of Iberia, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
