LE MARS, Iowa -- Marlin W. Jenness, 72, of rural Le Mars passed away Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Drew Tomberlin officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Resthaven Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Marlin Wayne Jenness was born July 31, 1933, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Francis Roy and Verna (McCorkell) Jenness. He attended school in Washta, Iowa, and later in Quimby, Iowa. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1951. He went to work for Iowa Public Service. In 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Hawaii and later in Washington D.C. He was honorably discharged in 1961. He continued working as a linesman and later as a serviceman for Iowa Public Service.

He was united in marriage to Carla Sue Wilde on Feb. 16, 1991, in Le Mars. He retired in 1995. Following his retirement, he started his own business, Jenness Tree Trimming. He operated that for five years until his health began to fail.

He was a devout Christian. He enjoyed his times outdoors, whether it was trimming trees, mowing or fishing. He loved the time spent with family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Carla Sue of rural Le Mars; three children, Jodi and her husband, Marlin Wielenga of Remsen, Iowa, Kelli Harmon of Spencer, Iowa, and Staci and her husband, Mark Schleef of Cherokee, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Merritt and Velma Jenness of Marcus, Iowa; three sisters, Geraldine Roby of Aurelia, Iowa, Ruby and her husband, Lester Webb of Cherokee and Lois Pflugrad of Port Angeles, Wash.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Armeda Jenness, Evangalene Jenness and Berna Jenness; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Oliver, Erwin, Virgil, Howard and Lloyd in infancy; and two sisters, Rita Fuhrman and Leta in infancy.
