CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Ray L. Thomas, 76, of Cherokee passed away Friday, May 5, 2006, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present 3 to 7 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
Ray was born April 3, 1930, at Cherokee to George and Carrie (McClain) Thomas. He graduated from Aurelia High School in 1947.
He was married to Shirley Cole on Oct. 24, 1953, at Jackson, Minn. Ray had worked for the Hartley Creamery and was an agent for Iowa Parcel Service in Cherokee for many years, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed camping and doing yard work.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Ginny Bunt and her husband, Mike of Cleghorn, Iowa; a son, Corwin Thomas and his wife, Sandy of Ruthven, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Stacie and Todd Huckfelt, Cory M. Thomas and his fiancee, Michelle Naylor, Justin and Sarah Thomas, Brad Bunt, Rebecca and Chris Simonsen, Kerry and Mark Hurd, Rachael Bunt and her fiance, Lon Etnier and Candace Bunt; seven great-grandchildren, Hailey, Alyssa and T.J. Huckfelt, Paige and Henry Thomas and Ashley and Ryan Hurd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don and George Thomas; and two sisters Lola Belle Wells and Myrna Swihart.
